Promoting conservation agriculture

Introducing, promoting and supporting implementation of conservation agriculture within local communities involved in agriculture. Conservation agriculture adoption will improve food security and promote self resilience.

WHO ARE WE ?

Agriculture is not a new skill but we are not out for a room for improvement.

CAEC-Umurunga is agriculture company aims at combining efforts of youths to give back to the community by implementing conservation agriculture practices for sustainable agriculture. The main thrust of our work is hands-on extension training, using lead farmers, in their own farming communities.

Projects

We have seen that there is a need to improve the agriculture sector by implementing sustainable agriculture practices which exert minimum disturbance to the soil, to keep our soil fertile and productive for the next generation. Considering that 21% of the soil in Rwanda is suitable for agriculture, we work hand in hand with farmers to fight for food security through our trainings and extension services.

Extension services

We provide lessons to the farmers by giving them modular lessons containing guidelines on aspects of Conservation agriculture.

FAQ

What is conservation Agriculture

“Conservation Agriculture is a farming system that promotes minimum soil disturbance (i.e. no tillage), maintenance of a permanent soil cover, and diversification of plant species. It enhances biodiversity and natural biological processes above and below the ground surface, which contribute to increased water and nutrient use efficiency and to improved and sustained crop production.” FAO

How does Conservation agriculture improve production

By practicing conservation agriculture, emissions of greenhouse gases will be reduced due to reduced use of energy and improved nutrient use efficiency. Also, minimum soil disturbance will protect soil from breaking down, which will minimize carbon emissions.
